    Default Concerned about supply

    Hi ladies!

I have been back at work now for a few weeks, and I am starting to get a bit concerned about my supply. I have been pumping every few hours while away from my son (he is almost 11 weeks old) and I am starting to notice that I am getting more and more when I pump. I am a bit concerned that this can lead to OS issues. I just pumped out 10 oz, which is way above what I normally get. Should I be concerned about this?

My BF relationship with my son has been near perfect so far, there have been no issues of OS even though I was pumping an extra time in the day (at night during his long sleeping stretch) just to build up my freezer stash. But we never saw any implications from this (green poops, etc) and so I just figured it was like producing an extra 3ish oz a day.

But now that I am working, I think my son has shifted his eating habits a bit. He hates the bottle and only reluctantly takes it, but I end up pumping during the day as if he has been eating a ton. My concern is that he is reverse cycling and I am still pumping like a mad cow at work...and that this might lead to issues of OS.

What do other working moms do? Do you pump only what your baby eats in a day, if he is reverse cycling and say only eating 4 oz throughout a 8 hour period, should I only pump to that and not empty my breast? That will suck for me!... Or am I making a bigger deal out of this than it really is? I am just concerned to start causing problems when we have done so well.

    Thanks in advance!!

I know there is a couple mamas who have had this exact issue. I hope they come along. But I think they both reduced the number of sessions they did during the day. But it was bothering their babies. If it's not a problem, you could keep going and then pump wean early because you'll have a full freezer or start donating.

I am already in the process of becoming a donor (awaiting blood results for the final approval), so I certainly don't mind producing an excess. My concern is that it will start to affect his nursing if I am producing that much more (ie if he will start to get more foremilk or something) OR that he isn't getting enough at night to make up for the day. I feel like either situation would really stink, since we have been doing so well. Sometimes I just hate that I have to work.

If you start seeing green foamy poop, you block feed.

I think Juno and mommytoliliah had this and had to pump for work.

No foamy poops yet, but I am on the lookout.

I think he is going through a growth spurt the last few days, so there are no issues of OS right now!
