    Default SNS question

I was asked to supplement at my son's 2 month appt. We're using an SNS, which I'd used a couple of times before during my son's first weeks. Trouble is (and I noticed this with the earlier uses, too) our nursing sessions following the use of an SNS are awful. DS won't suck long, gets frustrated quickly, and we both end up in tears. Has anybody else had issues with this? Any suggestions?
I don't unclip the SNS tube until he's been on the second breast for a good 10 mins and his sucking pattern has slowed. I feel like he's not removing as much milk the next session after we've used the SNS, which is bad news considering I'm already supplementing (my thread Discouraged explains the whole situation).

Sorry for all the posts on this. I'm just frustrated and unsure, and worried that my time BFing my son is coming to an all-too-early end, just like it did with my DD.
I'll be calling my ped and the LC we've been working with tomorrow, as soon as I get my phone working.

Can he easily get the milk out of the SNS? He might be frustrated that BFing is hard withou the SNS. Does that make sense?

    Which system do you have?

Yes he can get it out pretty easily. if the tube isn't clamped, it will drip. I know it's a medela, no idea beyond that.

Googled it. It's this one http://www.nurturecenter.com/index.p...FRNtgwodylIv6g

Got it from the hospital, and it's identical to the one the LC gave me to work with when I was trying to BF my DD.

I kind of think he likes the fast flow of the SNS, just from what you write there. If you can, get a Lact-Aid system. You have to order it. But the system is a bit different, and the child has to actually suck on it to make the milk come out. I had to take it apart and use it upside down for my cleft baby, since he can't suck, and it drips that way. But the other way, there is no dripping. Just a thought

Thanks for the suggestion. I've dropped the SNS for now. I figured it was doing more harm than good. Now we're focusing on maintaing supply. We tried the Playtex bottle we used with DD (new nipple, of course), but the flow was too fast and DS just got angry. A friend suggested the Nuk bottles. We tried one, and his suck pattern with that bottle is very similar to his pattern when he nurses. He comes back to the breast like nothing's changed and nurses as well as ever! We're going with that for now. I've got an appointment with the IBCLC tomorrow and she's going to try and get us a pump again. If nothing else, at least it will increase my BM to formula ratio, and may even let us do those double cream bottles!
    Thanks again! You've been wonderful!
