Default she doesn't "suckle, she BITES...HELP ME

My baby is 2 weeks old today and I had problems getting her to latch on at the hospital, apparently, my nipples are flat so I had to use a nipple shield to nurse. I visited with the lactation specialist a week later and she showed me how to ween my baby from the nipple shield which was helpful, but since then I've realized the pain in nursing is NOT subsiding because she does NOT use her tongue to cover her bottom gums. She just chomps down with both gums to eat. I've tried pulling her bottom jaw down to get more nipple in her mouth, I've tried making sure her lips are not turned in...but nothing seems to help with her suckling. ANY IDEAS?!?!?!

    Welcome mama
The beginning is the roughest! It will get better!
I do not have flat nipples but will tell you what helped me. I did a 'nipple sandwich'. I squeezed my breast to make my nipple/aereola flatter so it would fit better in my little one's mouth (like she was eating a sandwich).
it was always hard to get it in her tiny mouth (and they don't open very weird unless they are crying ) but that helped for me. and sometimes if it wasn't in far enough it would hurt like she was biting it and I would simply stick my finger in her mouth to break the suction/latch and try again. Hope this is helpful.

That is what the lactation specialist did to help me ween baby off the nipple shield and she will latch on when I pinch my nipple, but she still uses her gums to chomp

A wide variety of ideas to consider in the above links.

A good idea...call the LC back and ask for more help. Hands on is so, somhelpful

Hands-on help! Make sure the LC checks the baby for tongue tie. Babies who do not protrude their tongue beyond the lower gum line are sometimes physically unable to do so. Sometimes this is due to a short tongue, which corrects itself with time as the baby grows and her mouth grows, but sometimes it is due to a tight frenulum!
