When I originally set off on this endeavor known as breastfeeding, I told myself I was going to go 12 months. Then I actually started and barely made it past 5 weeks. Who knew something so natural was so difficult? Anyway, with the help of an amazing lactation consultant and the amazing women on this forum, we made it to my original goal and beyond....we're still nursing at 14 months! Yeah!
I'm thrilled about this milestone because if we hadn't made it this long, I never would have seen how happy nursing makes my DS now. When I ask him if he wants to nurse, he gets so excited! He practically giggles and runs at me, jumping in my lap. I don't think I can undo my bra fast enough. I absolutely LOVE this. And to think, if I would have given up at 5 weeks, I never would have experienced this pure joy that my DS feels at the idea of nursing. It's fun because nursing is no longer a main source of nutrition for my DS as he eats a lot of solids and only nurses 3 or 4 times per day. He now genuinely enjoys it.
