    Default Breastfeeding adopted child~

    My husband and I are adopting our first child in November. We will be bringing her home from the hospital when she is born. I am wanting to breastfeed, how do/when do I get started?? Any and all help is appreciated!! THANK YOU!!

    Congratulations!!! I don't have any suggestions, but I am adopted and just wanted to let you how wonderful it is that you are giving this baby a beautiful life and loving family!

    oh, farmgirl how fortunate Payton will be to find a loving home in your arms.
    Mothers who adopt can have mutually satisfying breastfeeding relationships with their babies.
    Some adoptive mothers begin stimulating a milk supply about a month before the baby's due.
    some mothers begin this process by using hand massage and then progress to hospital grade electric pumps.
    some mothers contact nurse practitioners who are IBCLC and use prescription medications to aid in milk production.
    there is a plethora of information on adoptive nursing on the LLL website.

    Just wanted to say I know 2 adoptive moms who nursed their babies. It can be done!

    I am breastfeeding adopted son, as well.

    a GREAT support group is a Yahoo group called, 1ABSupportGroup.

    Also, if you're interested. My IBCLC certified friend and I are in the process of launching Adoptivebreastfeeding.org, and we would love to track your progess and your thoughts. We're looking for people at the beginning stages of induced lactation.
