I have been able to nurse my son exclusively (was exclusively PUMPING for the first 3 weeks and then pumping and nursing together after that) since we had his tongue-tie corrected on July 11th. The only time I've had to pump is while I'm at work (went back July 14th).
Sometimes there is hardly any pain at all, it's just a little irritating. Other times, it gets to be gradually so painful that I have to remove him from my breast and either put him on the other side or hope he's had enough. The pain usually occurs toward the end of a feeding. Is it possible that if the breast is empty that he starts chomping down instead of sucking?
The latch may not be perfect, but I've had an LC look at it and they say it's great. I get as much areola in his mouth as possible and his lips are flanged out. Since his tongue-tie was corrected it has been a night and day difference (before it was so painful I would cry almost every session).
Is this normal? I mean, technically I've only been exclusively nursing him since July 11th, so just 10 days, but my nipples did get somewhat "roughened up" from pumping and occasionally nursing...or is there something wrong?
I've tried all the different latch/positioning techniques...the breast sandwich or whatever, using pillows, the boppy, the football hold, sidelying, etc.
