Default You know you're no longer nursing a newborn when...

I love the YKYNATW thread, it has given me so much inspiration to keep nursingwell past 1. Recently my daughter has started doing some new nursing behaviors that, while not as funny as some in the toddler thread, show her developing personality and just how much she's grown in the past 6 months. I'd be interested in others' observations as well. And maybe this thread can show new mamas just how cute, funny, rewarding, and different BFing can be fom those sometimes hard, intense initial stages in just a few short months.

You know you're no longer nursing a newborn when...

...your baby laughs happily at your nipples, and "talks" to them.

...your baby sometimes hums when latched and even pulls away to "sing".

...your baby tries to pick up your nipple using a pincer grasp to bring it to her mouth.

...your baby nurses sitting up, holding one foot in the air by her head.

Oh fun! I can't wait to be a part of the toddler thread and am glad I can be a part of this one now. It truely is fun to watch the little changes.

...when your baby unlatches and looks around every single time there is a noise (but can relatch all on his own).

....when you and your baby have a little laughing party during a nursing session.

Lord, this is making it so I CAN'T WAIT for #2 to get here.

My son would smile and give a little chuckle if he thought something was funny, but wouldn't let go of my nipple at all - so just the corners of his mouth would pull up and milk would go running down his chin. Super cute.

You know you're no longer nursing a newborn when...

...your baby slaps or punches at the breast while nursing to encourage letdown.

...your baby's eyes get wide when you pull your breast out of your bra.

...you have to give your little one stuff to do while she's nursing to keep her focused.

    Haha love it!

You can't watch tv anymore while bf because somebody won't eat and only wants to see what's on tv!

You can't eat or drink either. Little hands grab for it!

They can latch on by themselves!

She squeals when you strap on the breastfriend pillow.

She says mmmm yummy mmmm, while nursing.

...I love when I make him giggle while nursing and the corners of his mouth turn up to giggle, but he doesn't unlatch.
...When he combs his fingers through my hair while nursing.
...If I pull my shirt down before he's ready, he just lifts my shirt back up!
...When he bites! (I don't love that part though, but a newborn doesn't bite)

When you lie down next to them and before you can reach across to bring them to the breast, they have managed to throw themselves across the bed and latched on (whilst wearing a sleeping bag and not yet able to crawl!)

You can't nurse anywhere but at home in one certain place because they're so distractable.
