Default Full Term Breastfeeding Friendly OB/GYN

How does one go around looking for that? Any advice?
I need to switch my doc. Not only did she give me a couple of pieces of very poor advice, she also told me that I should start thinking about weaning my kid. (13 months).
I am thinking of having another one in the next couple of years, and I want a doctor who will be supportive of nursing while pregnant and tandem nursing if it happens. But I do not know how to go around looking for one!
Anyone can point me to a good resource?

Can you find a midwife nearby?

Is there a local LLL group? Some of the other moms there might have good recommendations.

There are no midwifes that are covered by my insurance.

Local LLL is a great idea! I will look for it!

Yeah just ask your friends who are also breastfeeding. My doctor always encourages my daughter's breastfeeding and is very comfortable with my not giving her any cow's milk as long as she's still nursing.

I agree with a LLL group being a great place to ask mothers which OBGYN they used, there or ask on any social networking site you may be on (facebook etc) for word of mouth recommendations.

You could ask your ped for a recommendation.

I interviewed some OBs before deciding. The first one was absolutely horrible and I knew about 2 minutes into the interview that she was NOT it. The second one was awesome. Just go down the list of those approved by your insurance, call to see if they'll do an interview, and go from there. It's so worth it to find a supportive doctor. Even his nurse practitioner clapped last time I was there because I was still breastfeeding

I also asked about the breast surgeon he refers to in case of an abscess, etc. I was very comfortable with his answers and his knowledge of the surgeons--it pays to have someone with that kind of experience. He was also supportive of garlic before antibiotics for a clogged duct that got very red. Just check around. There are some fabulous docs out there!!! Good luck

I second asking the ped. Sorry I didn't notice the distinction. I see a family practice physician so he handles prenatal/OB stuff for me and also my daughter's medical care.
