So I taught Gavin to sign for milk when I realized that he habitually asked by asking me to pick him up and then smashing his head into my face or chest, whichever he hit first. Ouch. This was a few months ago.
Lately I've been putting a few limits on how he nurses...
At the IL's this evening Gavin takes a tantrum over something. Then when I pick him up he grabs my shirt and pulls it open trying to help himself. Not in a cute way either. In a demanding - I'm running the show manner. So I said uh uh not like that you don't. And I put him down.
Instead of signing he ran off and played with something.
After supper (so a couple of hours later). MIL asks me "so... are you weaning him or were you asking for communication?"
I told her communication. That he knows how to sign for it and that I don't let him manhandle me to get at it.
She smiled and I think I saw a sigh of relief!
It's always nice to have people on your side. (Especially when it's your MIL!)
