Until my babies showed ALL signs of readiness, I gave both babies an empty bowl and a spoon to play with.

My baby also likes to play with my car keys, CDs, and pretty much anything else he can get his hands on. Its a normal part of exploring & learning & wanting to do everything that you do.

The only one of those requirements I slightly disagree with is the pincer grasp. My son was a bit motor delayed, but had no problem shoving food in his face with the raking grasp at 8 mos

Me, too... Emily is doing awesome feeding herself and she definitely grips things in her fist. I am keeping an eye out so I can start giving her whole peas, chopped fruit and organic puffs!
