    Default Medela Pump In Style

    Hi!

If I borrow the Medela Pump In Style breast pumps from my friend, which are the parts that I should buy new? I am a germaphobic
I am thinking the tubings, the collection bottles?

    Thanks!!

The pump in style is an open system pump, meaning milk CAN get into the motor if any backs up into the tubes. It is impossible to clean that part of the pump.

That being said, I borrowed a friend's PISA and used it for several months before it died. I know her well and trust that she doesn't have any communicable diseases. I sterilized the parts by boiling them.

If you are that much of a germaphobe, you should buy a new pump or rent a closed-system one (like a hospital grade pump). If you aren't, I wouldn't buy any new parts (unless you need spares) and just boil the old ones.

I have spent the last hours reading the forum and I decided to buy a new pump. Better safe than sorry
