Re: nipple protector to correct latching problem?

If by nipple protector, you mean nipple shield, then yes, I would use one. See a Lactation Consultant or La Leche League Leader who will help you select the right one and show you how to use it.

  2. Re: Does pumping speed affect how much bm you will get?

The Breastfeeding Answer Book recommends a pump that cycles ~60 times per minute, which most closely mimics an infants sucking pattern. Frequent cycling helps to build and maintain supply. A pump...

Re: When did you start cycling again

15.5 months. At that point, I was nursing 2 to 3 times, and pumping once in a 24 hour period.

Re: amazing discovery re: nursing strike

I have seen this first hand, too! My son (who normally doesn't need to nurse during the day) will demand to nurse at day-time LLL meeting after seeing everyone else nursing!

Re: Pedi has recommended "gut rest"

I was going to say the same thing. I would continue to nurse as much as your LO is willing/able.

And ... I'd be looking for a new doctor.

Re: weekend nursing -- low supply?

I went back to work when my son was 12 months. In order to prevent that imbalance in supply from weekday to weekend, I decided to pump during my lunch break. Now at 15 months, I'm lucky if I can...

    Re: Spit up thru nose??

My son spit up out his nose too. He had reflux (GERD), and he would spit up so much that it just couldn't flow out his mouth fast enough, so some came out his nose. As he grew bigger, the nose spit...

Re: Anyone using meds to treat infant reflux?

My son took Zantac from 4 months to 10.5 months. I think his dose was increased a few times as his weight increased. The only draw back I found was once he finally outgrew the reflux, the Zantac...

Re: Should I contact a lactation consultant?

It's not uncommon to have a larger supply on one side. I know that my left side tends to produce more.
  10. Re: A silly frequency question where I need your reassurance

Human milk has more nutrients (in the right proportions for humans) than cow's milk does.

My son had severe reflux and even though he did take Zantac (which helped with the reflux) he still developed an oral aversion and had to have months of occupational therapy in order for him to...

    Re: frustrated...

Cluster feeding at 12 days is totally normal! It's also not uncommon for babies to sleep longer when they're being held. They've just spent 40 weeks being held - that's all they know. If you...

Re: Milk blister thing in nipple?

Sounds like a milk bleb or milk blister. I've been getting them in the same spot the last few months. It all started with an accidental bite. On occassion, I'll end up with a bleb. A bleb is...
  14. Re: pump and clean, pump and clean, pump and clean...

I've always just put them directly into the fridge. You're OK for 24 hours to leave them in the fridge and pump. After 24 hours, you should wash them.

    I've read some information...

Re: Should I just let him nurse

I still nurse my 13 month old to sleep. I enjoy the time we spend together. He's relaxed, I'm relaxed, and it's just a good time. I figure it's better to be relaxed at bed time than stressed out!

    Re: Hand expression question

If you're using a bowl, do you not have to lean over? If I hand express while sitting up in a chair, I get at least 5 streams, each going in their own direction, but generally straight out from the...

    Re: Hand expression question

I always use compressions while pumping. If I didn't, I would likely only get half the amount I do!

Nobody's got a milk catcher? I have an idea in mind, but it's not something I can build myself!

Re: Spit up coming out of nose!

My son had reflux and also spit up out his nose. The pediatrician put him on Ranitidine (Zantac) and that helped a lot. Also, once his head grew a bit, the volume of spit up was reduced compared to...

Not unusual. I read in the Breastfeeding Answer Book that in cases of injesting food colouring (like Gatorade or similar) that women have reported green and red milk! Wow!

    Re: Is this OK?

Also, breast size is not an indicator of production ability. It *can* be an indicator of how much milk you can store, but that's not always the case. Mom's with a smaller storage capacity tend to...
