    Re: Just starting solids

I believe the consensus is that breast milk (or formula) is the preferred liquid for babies of that age. you don't want to fill up the little tummies with water since it has no food value...your baby...
  2. Re: is cooking with milk okay before a year?

Should be fine. The idea of delaying cow's milk is primarily so mom's don't substitute it for breast milk or formula. Most formula is made from cow's milk and we all know there are a lot of babies...

    Re: Drinking from a cup?

I found it is easier to introduce a cup earlier rather than later. I started with sips of water until I was confident my LO was swallowing and not aspirating the liquid (maybe 3 or 4 sessions on...

    Re: Bread/Toast

Bread can glob up in the mouth and can be hard to handle. I prefer toast for beginner eaters for this reason.

Re: tingly feeling in leg when LO nurses

I used to get that early on in my foot/calf. It happened with both boys in the first few months of nursing...for me it was associated with my letdown.

    Re: food allergy reactions

Agree -- always discuss with your health care provider.
Milder reactions like hives can be treated with benedryl; anything breathing head to an ER.

When my son started reacting to peanut butter...
  7. Re: If Baby Is Born 2-3 Weeks Early, Will Lactation Be Jeopardized?

Both my boys were emergency sections: 3 weeks and 5 weeks early. I had no problems with colostrum/milk coming in...nursed both the day they were born.

    Good luck with everything.
  8. Re: This scotch drinker is a little tired of wine.

momma2thumper...drifting a bit here but I did develop a food allergy with my 1st pregnancy (almonds). Read that it's not that uncommon to get new allergies since pregnancy is a stress on the immune...

    Re: Scratching the mommy

I have been wondering if I should treat it like biting...nice to mommy or no booby milk.

It's the night time feeds that are the most bothersome because I'm trying to sleep/rest.

    DS 1 was a...

    Scratching the mommy

    HI,

My DS 2 (8 mo.s) has started to scratch me A LOT while nursing. He will scratch with both hands: one on the breast and the other on my mommy fat. It is more than just annoying; it actually...
  11. Re: This scotch drinker is a little tired of wine.

Another thing to consider is that alcohol goes from your gut to your blood to your milk...it's not like when a woman is pregnant and the fetus gets the straight goods.

    If I want a drink I nurse...

    Re: Solids = cereal?

Note that I said "generations past" and "not today's thinking at all" re: solids & sleep. Just trying to conceive of why a pediatrician would green light solids at such a young age...thought maybe...

    Re: Solids = cereal?

Agree to pay close attention to those signs for readiness esp. the tongue thrust reflex and the good head control. It's more challenging than you'd think to get a little one to eat cereal....
