Re: What Are Good Finger Foods

Any kind of soft, fresh fruits(bananas, peaches, pears, etc.). Steamed veggies. Cheerios. Crackers. Rice. Pasta. Pieces of tender meats or low-mercury fish...... I'm sure there's more, it's just not...
  2. Re: Fussing at the breast - help please

Could be thrush. It may be making him uncomfortable.

I was also wondering if perhaps it was an ear infection, and laying on his side was making his ears hurt more, and that's why he was resistant...

    Congratulations! :clap That's great!

There's something similar here, often used on LJ. http://gynosaur.com/bf_ribbons.php
  4. Re: Fussing at the breast - help please

Have you tried nursing him in a football hold? It might help him to latch on more easily.
As for why, it could be any number of things. Is he fussier than usual?

    Re: Constant Leaking

Sounds like pretty normal leaking to me. I didn't stop leaking until my son was over 8 months.

Re: How to latch laying down?

I sit up, hold DS2 sort of upright and latch him on that way, and then lay down on my side with him latched on.

    Re: Are sore breasts normal?

I'm curious as to what it feels like. Could you explain more? Sore only while nursing or all the time? When he latches on? Does the pain ease up as he sucks for a minute? Is it localized to one area?...

    Re: Need advice on sling...

I'd suggest you go to www.thebabywearer.com. TONS of info.

My personal preference for nursing is a mei tai. But, my "favorite" carrier is a Didymos wrap.
  10. Re: What initial supplies do you need?

I think it's good to HAVE some things.... A Boppy pillow would be my #1. Nursing pads(I like the Lansinoh disposables, they have adhesive on the back so they'll stick to your nursing bra/tank), a...

    Re: used okra?

I gave my son some the other day. I just steamed some and cut it into small pieces. He liked it. I also steamed some broccoli and gave him that, which he liked as well.

    Re: Low Milk Supply

You're right. Your doctor is wrong. :)

Breastfeeding is a supply/demand situation. The more your child is at your breast eating, the more milk your body will make. Offering formula, even after a...

    Re: Cereals?

The first solid food we gave Ansel was oatmeal. But, not baby oatmeal flakes... we used whole oats and I cooked them with breastmilk instead of water.
We very well could have started with...

Re: not so hungry roley poley...

Everything that you described is really normal in the middle of developmental milestones. Just stick with it :) Things should get better soon.

    Re: Nipple Color

That's called nipple blanching. It's generally indicative of a shallow latch.

  16. Re: Confused about baby thrush and don't trust these doctors help!

    It did for us. But.
My son was on the liquid for two weeks. And I was using the cream for two weeks. AND I took Diflucan for two weeks.

    Re: Heading back to work

Are you around when he does this? Some babies will not accept a bottle if mom is around, even if she's somewhere in the house. Babies can smell their mothers from a long distance. Maybe you could...
  18. Re: Will not pumping for 12 hours hurt?

At that age, 12 hours is long enough for plugged ducts, which could cause mastitis. It's also long enough to significantly negatively affect your supply.
    I wouldn't do it.

    Re: Caffeine

    *shrug*
Through pregnancy(well, after the first trimester) and while breastfeeding, I've drunk two cups of coffee per day. And i usually drink them while nursing(literally).
    I keep myself well...

    Re: Could LO be thirsty?

The foremilk is thirst quenching. The hindmilk is what fills them up and makes them satiated. She'll get all she needs from breastmilk. If she wants to nurse, nurse her.
  22. Re: Do you give your LOs drink water or juice?

We started giving Ansel sips of water in a sippy cup at 6 months, when we introduced solids.
We don't even give our 5 year old juice, so Ansel definitely won't be getting any.

    Re: Freezer stash

We're using ours to make solids. I make oatmeal with breastmilk instead of water... mix breastmilk into veggies and fruits.... etc.
  24. Re: I'm losing my supply ... help!!

oh no! He took your baby? Oh my, my heart goes out to you, mama!

So you're trying to keep your supply up for when the baby comes back?

If so, you should be pumping for EVERY missed feeding....

    Re: Yogurt Brand?

Even our 5 year old still only eats plain yogurt. So we buy plain whole milk yogurt. We don't eat organic, so we buy whatever. But I know Horizon and Stonyfield make it. I've seen those in lots of...
