    Re: omega 3 fatty acids?

Yes, although I *think* this is one of the things that does vary with maternal diet. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong). So, make sure to have good sources of Omega 3's in your diet.

    Re: constipation, in mother

Hmmm, I thought it was normal not to have a BM for several days after birth?? Often, your body kind of "cleans itself out" right before the birth. I think I remember my OB saying the first BM often...

Re: Maybe I don't know how to bf....

Oops, I wanted to add that my DS only fed on one breast per feeding until he was around 8 or 9 months old I think. Don't worry about that. Do what works for you.

Re: Maybe I don't know how to bf....

This sounds completely normal to me. I have actually read/heard that it common for babies to start waking *more* frequently around this age, and that was true for my DS. As they get a bit older,...

Re: Just in the USA, or...

I think that in most "western" countries, it is very unusual for toddlers to nurse. Breastfeeding rates overall are not great (with a few exceptions of countries that have put on big campaigns to...

    Re: Suggestions on comfort nursing

Hi! I hope the shots went ok. When my DS was a newborn, I also had oversupply and a baby that didn't comfort nurse much. He did sometimes nurse less after getting his shots (some them actually...

    Re: baby not regaining weight

Hi there! I'm chiming in a little late here, but it sounds like you have gotten things on track. An ounce a day gain is great (6 ounces per week is average weight gain). It sounds like the...
  8. Re: baby not gaining weight while breastfeeding, pls help!

Hopefully the compressions will help. It sounds like he needs some encouragement to actively suck at the breast for longer periods. Do you have another weight check scheduled? If you go back to...
  9. Re: baby not gaining weight while breastfeeding, pls help!

I was also wondering whether the LC had weighed the baby before and after a feeding to see how much he was getting at the breast.

I agree about trying the breast compressions, that can help the...
  10. Re: Begging for Advice or Just Someone to Relate

My DS did this same thing at around that age. It was very frustrating. I never really figured out what caused it, but he eventually stopped doing it. So, I guess it was just a phase. Hang in...

    Re: Stool question

Well, it sounds like his stools were changing over from meconium to regular breastmilk stools, which is good. I'd wait a little longer before getter too concerned since urine output is good.

Re: How do you breastfeed while sleeping?

It took us awhile to get the hang of nursing while laying down (until about 2 months), so don't get discouraged. It gets easier as baby gets a little bigger. As some of the pp's have said, I also...
  13. Re: Moms of night-weaned LO's... some questions!

I nightweaned my DS, but he was much older at the time (almost 2 1/2) so I don't know how much help our story will be. He was waking 10-12+ times a night to nurse :yikes. First I made him a book...

    Re: I'm really upset...What should I do?

Is it an option to get that seal coating applied that they sometimes use to prevent caries? I'm guessing the dentist would have mentioned it if it was, but just thought I'd throw that out there.

    Re: in hospital

That's great that you are well enough to leave the hospital and go home! Regarding the pumping, it may help to apply some olive oil or lanolin to lubricate the flange when you pump. Can you hand...

Re: would you go see a specialist for this?

Hmmm, I'm not sure what I would do either. I think one possible problem with chronic blood in stools is anemia, since you lose iron when bleeding. Not completely sure about that though. If it...

Re: Should I even try to bf?

I didn't have time to read through all of the other posts, but wanted to say definitely give it a try again! It sounds like you will be quite disappointed if you don't try.

    Regarding the bras,...

    Re: im really tired

I know how you feel. :hug:hug At your son's age, my son was still nursing CONSTANTLY around the clock. He generally woke up 10-12 times (sometimes more) at night to nurse. My son was a little...

Re: I don't know what to do?

So, does this mean that you successfully breastfed your first daughter?

Up until this time, your baby had adequate diaper output without supplements? What was her weight gain/growth like...

Re: I don't know what to do?

I'd strongly suggest going to see a lactation consultant (sorry if you've already been seeing one). You want to find someone who has the IBCLC credential.

Keep putting baby to the breast. Many...

    Re: extended bfing

With the return of periods, it is my understanding that MANY moms experience no changes in supply, SOME experience temporary dips in supply monthly which rebound with continued nursing. Personally,...

Re: Is it too late for me? Please help.

Yes, I think your plan sounds good. I wanted to add that the skin to skin contact you mentioned is great for BOTH your milk supply as well as bringing out baby's natural inclination to nurse. So,...

Re: Anyone have to wean an older child?

I recently *nudged* my 3 1/2 year old to wean because I am pregnant and was getting very sore (also didn't really feel like I was up for tandem nursing). We read the book Maggie's Weaning, which...

Diaper output sounds good, and she was back well over birth weight at two weeks, so that's good too. If you continue to feel concerned about her getting enough to eat you can call and ask if you can...
