  1. Re: traveling for work first month postpartum

aw, thanks, everyone! it really helps to have such a supportive community at my back. that sounds corny but i mean it sincerely.
  2. Re: traveling for work first month postpartum

thought i'd update y'all - i have an interview scheduled for next week, when jory will be exactly 3 weeks. it's driving distance, so the whole famdamily is going, and the hiring dept has a) scheduled...
  3. Re: traveling for work first month postpartum

i was pumping already in the hospital last time (at ped's insistence, to bring milk in faster?), and continued at home, and there's nothing i'd love more than to not even pull the pump out of the...

wow, i wish i could find that post!

thank you! i hope for all of that too.
  7. Re: traveling for work first month postpartum

thanks, it really helps to have you write out the nuts & bolts! even though i should theoretically know all those things, i think i'm not totally rational about them for myself. so i could, for...
  8. Re: traveling for work first month postpartum

it's just so hard to wrap my head around "choosing" formula (even though in a sense it's not really a choice) and the shame-feeling-like-a-failure for asking for donor milk! which is not rational, of...

thanks, pteroglossus. i'm very familiar with the professor is in but haven't seen (and can't find) that post - if you see it or can remember any other key words, would you let me know? thanks!

  10. Re: traveling for work first month postpartum

i will likely (but not for sure) have 1-2 weeks notice. i think it likely that if the interview has to happen in the first ~4 weeks i'll take baby; after that i might decide case-by-case.
    ...
  11. Re: traveling for work first month postpartum

secondary question for y'all - given all the uncertainties, i could go nuts pumping very early to try to build a stash for being away. and risk oversupply, plus all the stress and time of doing that....
  12. Re: traveling for work first month postpartum

OOH, finding a local LLLLeader is a great idea, thanks! and thanks for tthat language about bringing baby & caregiver - i think that's really good.

and re: location - yeah, it's bizarre. it's like...
  13. Re: traveling for work first month postpartum

you would think it would be more normal for family to come, especially since it's not unusual to get as little as 2 weeks after the visit to accept an offer, but it's not. the academic job market is...
  14. Re: traveling for work first month postpartum

oh, they don't in theory, but in practice they often make travel arrangements for you, pick you up at the airport and hotel, etc.
  15. Re: traveling for work first month postpartum

oh, there's also the middle way of taking the baby but not telling the dept i have. they won't come back to my hotel room with me, of course. but i also wouldn't want them to think i was being sneaky...
  16. Re: traveling for work first month postpartum

    @meg - if only!!!

@mommal - i may not have much notice on which dept, so i think i'll still be making decisions last-minute no matter what. :(
  17. Re: traveling for work first month postpartum

aw, shucks! thanks. and yeah, that's why i feel like i should do what i can to normalize this.

yeah, and i'll be up front about being early postpartum too, at least with the administrative asst...
  18. Re: traveling for work first month postpartum

yes, i know this is true! i remember how hard it was to leave my first just to go upstairs for 2 hours to prep my course at 3 weeks ... caretaker options - i could potentially bring dad (and/or...
