Good - wake him up.
The nurses at the hospy had me nursing round the clock every 90 min for DS1 jaundice. It was exhausting but worked.
Oh and how long to keep trying to nurse at each 2 hour interval?
Quick update. Went to the pedi today he has lost over a pound. I have to rent a hospital grade pump and pump after each feeding and give it to him in addition to what he is nursing. She said he is lethargic due to jaundice and hunger and doesn't have the energy to properly get milk. My milk is in but coming in crappy hence us getting a pump. Also she feels his gestational age was way off and he is probably only 35 or 36 weeks. His ears are translucent. So we will be working hard through this!
Lisa - you can do this!
Did they say anything about bili-lights at home?
Lisa, you CAN do this. Pump as much as you can, have Logan nurse, and wake sweet Colby up OFTEN to eat. I would get a syring or cup to feed him with...it probably wouldn't be the smartest thing to do to introduce a bottle right now.
In a week or two this will all be behind you. Joey and Shiloh both lost close to 15% of their body weight and were jaundiced. The jaundice causes them to be really sleepy and then they don't eat so they don't have energy to wake. Its a vicious cycle that YOU have to help him break.
Hang in there and we're here when you need us:gvibes
Good job mama, way to stick to it! That's just what you need :clap DS had jaundice and bad latch problems and slept a lot when he was born. Things got better after and he gained fine. It sounds like the gestational age thing could really be a problem and I think you are doing everything right, especially waking him up every two hours. Just hang in there and things WILL get better! :hug
