Baby Led Solids and Baby Led Weaning are the same thing, baby eating solid food and taking less of Mommy's milk.
You just hand them the food in a suitably-sized piece and if they like it they eat it and if they don't they won't.
That's the essence of Baby Led Weaning. No purees, no ice cube trays, no moulis, no food processor, no potato masher, no baby rice, no mixing everything with expressed breast milk, no weird combinations of fruits and vegetables, no preparing everything weeks in advance... just you and your child, eating food that you enjoy with you and your family.
Dinky I am going to bump up some threads for you...I bumped one hte other day that has good experience and pictures and I will try to find one with the links as well!!!
Baby led weaning guidelines
Baby led weaning blog - lots of useful info from parents who have BTDT
Clarification - the guidelines paper was written by a British woman, and in British English "weaning" is the equivalent of the American term "starting solids".
Yes - as LO starts to eat more solids they will breastfeed less. But does not mean that the LO is totally weaning from breastfeeding.
I usually tell people that when DS started solids we skipped purees and he went directly to self-feeding finger foods.
Thanks for the bumps Shelly! I guess I've pretty much been doing BLS. I just wasn't sure.
