Beyond the fiber issue, you get certain nutrients from the SKINS of fruits as well that aren't in juice. It also can create a desire to drink only juice and reject water altogether.
My DS LOVES water and drinks it all day long and with meals -- in fact "wa-wa" is one of his favorite words. But I do occasionally give him one of those mini-organic juice boxes when we are out. It's a quick pick-me-up and he drinks it right away so it doesn't keep washing his teeth. Today however I made the mistake of giving him one on the way back from playgroup before his nap, along with a fig newton, and I think it did give him a bit of a sugar buzz, he was wired before his nap and didn't want to nurse much, so it took way longer than usual to get him down...So watch out for the sugar rushes and also for the appetite dampening effects of juice -- too much juice can cut down appetite for nursing or solids.
Great topic! I've learned a lot already from the posted info and links.
My dd never gets juice. I've never had a real reason why, I just didn't find it necessary since she's nursing. She loves water, and that's what's always in her sippy.
This is my issue, is there some other method of to give them the juice/ Majority of the time it takes forever to drink it up? Or maybe they are just getting too much....
? won't u get some of the fiber is u make your own juice and use the skin?
