Portland Donor Milk Bank
We are the Portland State University students of the Spring 2012 Capstone: Pregnancy and Childbirth Issues. We have partnered with the Northwest Mother's Milk Bank in an effort to help them open their doors as the first HMBANA functioning donor breast milk bank in Oregon, capable of serving numerous communities in the Northwest including Oregon, Washington, and Idaho! Our goal is as a class to raise $10,000 in order to supply them with a much needed bottle filling system (mixer and dispenser) for their facility. Currently the nearest donor milk banks to the Portland Metro area are in Denver, CO, and San Jose, CA. The Northwest is in desperate need of opening their own location, especially since we are home to some of the highest numbers of donors. Donor milk is important for helping premature infants in the NICU recover faster and become healthier than those provided with formulas, and the expenses of the NICU can be hard enough without the costs of shipping needed breast milk from so far away, or the cost of an additional life threatening illness that formula feeding preemies might cause. Please visit these links for more information and donate to help us fill their bottles today!
