Baby is now 11 months, and I've now had yeast infection 2-3 times, Mastitis 2 times, and clogged ducts...probably 10! Always clogged on the right side. This one that I currently have has probably been the worst and I got mastitis from it too. I'm now on day 5 and it still hasn't gone away! Pumping about every 3 hours, taking lecithin, have done phytolaca decandra, and have tried many other home remedies: potatoes, cabbage leaf, ginger/lemon tea, hot packs, massage, I try to do long pumpings (due to so many problems in the early months, we've been exclusively pumping, no bf-ing) so I get all the milk out. I've heard about getting ultrasound done on it. Also read that using the back of an electric toothbrush can help as well, so I've of course started trying that out. How can I better prevent these constant occurances and make them go away? I feel as if this one is never going to leave. Will I want to do things that would drop my milk supply right now so I can get rid of this clogged duct, and prevent it from getting more backed up? Planning to be done pumping when he turns 1, in a month. I have no idea how I'm going to be able to wean myself off, when I get clogged milk ducts and mastitis even when I'm doing full pumpings where I get everything out. Any recommendations, other than very slowly spreading the pumping times apart and shortening the time I pump? I'm starting to think I will have to do something drastic like fasting so I literally kill off my milk supply!

I am getting ready to have baby girl #2 next month and after failing with BF with DD #1, I am all about these forums and knowing what to do. I now know that nursing all the time is normal and doesn't mean my supply is low...etc. However...

My sis-in-law had a baby in March and when she was 2 weeks old, her doc put her on a "diet" because she was spending 45 mins on the breast. My SIL said that her doc said to limit the time to 15 minutes per nursing session. From what I have been reading on here, that doesn't seem like good advice does it? The baby is now 3 months old and she has switched to pumping only bc she says the baby just wants to nurse all the time so they give bottles now. We were out to dinner and in 2 hours the baby wanted to eat every 5 mins, and they went through 4 bottles of BM and 5 diapers...making the comment that maybe they should switch to formula to get her more calories. I told her formula has the same calories as BM but it takes longer to digest, giving the illusion of being higher in calories.

I just want to make sure that my current plan of being ready to nurse her 24/7 is normal and what I should do to ensure BF success....esp since docs are saying otherwise!

I posted not too long ago about my left breast having an oversupply of breastmilk and how it has a heavy letdown. About two days ago, my left breast started having deep tissue pain, and then the next day when feeding the baby, the pain in my nipple was just unbearable. I thought it was probably because he didn't latch right, so I broke the suction and relatched him, but the pain was still there.

The pain is a burning sensation, and sometimes feels like the nipple has been out in the freezing cold and getting its warmth back. The pain goes from my nipple and into my breast tissue. I have one white dot on my nipple that I noticed, but not multiple. My left breast has become ultra sensitive. Anything that touches or brushes against it, including the nipple, I start to feel pain, and sometimes the pain in the nipple comes on its own when sitting or laying down. So as you can probably guess, the pain doesn't go away after a feeding or pumping.

I pumped this morning on my left breast because it was too painful to have him feed from it, and I was only able to pump a little less than 2 ounces, which is pretty small considering the oversupply issue I was having with it.

I thought I might have thrush but I don't have any rashes on my breast, nor does baby does have any white patches in his mouth or tongue and I haven't noticed any diaper rashes on him either.

Could this just be a worst-case-sceniro of plugged milk ducts?

My youngest son is currently almost 9 months old and for probably %75 of the time we have been battling thrush. He got it really bad when he was 2/3 weeks old and since then its been a constant battle. I've tried treating it with nystatin (both in his mouth and on my breast), we've used gentian violet, and since this past (well current) bout with it we've started probiotics and yogurt. I cringe every Time he nurses and although I WANT to keep breastfeeding, being in so much pain constantly makes me was to stop. I am at my wits end and do not know what to do. The violet only gets rid of it for a week give or take and then it's back again. This morning my nipples are so cracked that my son had a blood mustache while nursing. I really need some advice and encouragement because I am in so much pain.

*edit* I also have been using coconut oil and lansinoh to try to help heal me up some to no avail.

My daughter has had a terrible latch from day one. I had a bleeding nipple in the hospital when she was just hours old. Anyway, some days some feedings are better than others.
We have worked with lactation on several occasions, her pedi is pro breastfeeding and check her for tounge tie among other things and we have worked with an occupational therapist as well as a speech therapist.
That being said, we are in a time right now where her latch is horrible, and I have a huge crack in one nipple that is bleeding everytime I nurse/pump or even rub wrong on the bra.
The pain is excrutiating and I am extremely susceptable to low supply and plugged ducts if I skip nursing or pumping.
I am looking for suggestions on how to alieviate some of the pain and keep the area clean while still maintaining my supply and avoiding plugged ducts.
As always any advice helps.

Hey mamas...I have a question for you all.

I'm nursing my 24 month old daughter, and she still nurses a lot - many times a day, often at night. She was a VERY fast gainer and was 25 lbs by the time she was 6 months old, and we had not introduced any solids at that point. She is about 32 lbs now, pretty tall for her age, I don't know exactly how tall. She still has arm rolls and just looks pretty round. She eats healthy foods, no cow's milk, low gluten, a few ounces of watered down orange juice occasionally. She prefers fruit over vegetables but really, I don't think her fruit intake is very concerning.

I'm becoming really concerned about her weight. My husband and I are pretty average-sized people but she is just still really chubby. I thought she would have thinned out by now, I guess? I don't want to obsess, but I also don't want her to experience teasing or, of course, the negative health effects of being overweight as she gets older. Sometimes other moms have commented in that passive-aggressive-disparaging way on her weight and it makes me feel like a big ol' failure :( but maybe they're right? What do you think?

Thank you!!!

I went for my 6 week check-up last week and he put me back on birth control (Generess FE) which he said was fine for breastfeeding moms. I was able to pump 10 ounces in between feedings up until this week, now i can only pump an ounce. Please help!

My son was born with severe tongue-tie. We had it clipped after I went through 3 different lactation consultants, and the last one discovered that he had tongue tie. He had it clipped at a week old. The latch didn't get any better, even though the doctor said it would be an instant difference. I've been having to use a nipple shield because he blistered both of my nipples. I have tried everything to get him to latch on without the nipple shield, because that thing is so darn difficult to put on, especially when you're sleep deprived in the middle of the night. Has anyone gone through this and had success, and what did you do differently?

Please advise!

He also falls asleep at the breast and usually feeds for about 1-1 1/2 hours at a time, so I have been pumping as well.

I usually strip him down to his diaper, stroke his face, tickle his tummy and feet, and nothing seems to wake him up.

Hi Ladies, I need some advice about my 16m old eating habits. She nurses on demand as always, including 1-2 times a night still. I've never kept track of the number of nursings, but she is easily getting 5-6 a day including a few that are clearly just comfort nursing without much actual eating. At home we have done BLW and she has always been a good eater. We have been fairly relaxed, just making sure to give her variety and letting her choose what to eat.

She has been going to daycare for about three months now and she eats really well at school. They feed for two fruit snacks a day plus lunch and dinner which is usually rice, beans, and some form of protein plus veggies.

My concern is that both dh and I have noticed she isn't eating much on the weekends anymore. She will often completely refuse what we offer her and when she does choose to eat, she eats almost exclusively carbs. Pancakes I make, crackers, toast etc. I'm very torn between letting her choose and making sure she is eating what she needs.

Today she refused to eat and screamed and cried when i told her she had to eat something before she had any more milk. Is this the right move? Should I always give in to her request for milk, even if she means she is not eating solid foods? I'm worried she will become a "bad" or "picky" eater.

TIA for any advice!

Hi all,

I have been taking fenugreek - 3 pills 3 times a day - to help with supply (in the beginning I was also drinking Mother's Milk Tea). I started having bad gas and diarrhea because of it, though -and I know it was causing it because I stopped for a few days, and the symptoms stopped. The problem is I also noted a corresponding dip in supply, and one serious enough to make my little one pretty upset. When I started taking it again, the production increased -but so didi the upset stomach and bad gas.

What can I do? I read somewhere to take fennel seed capsules with fenugreek.... can I reduce the dose somewhat of the fenugreek? I know pumping and feeding more will help, but right now is not a great time to add in more pumping (I pump about once or twice a day).

Edited to add - little one is 10 weeks old.

My dauther is almost four months old. I have two older children. The past week she has been crying inconsolably whenever I leave her for over an hour. I've been exclusively breastfeeding. She's had pumped milk maybe once a week after the first month and she's had formula a couple times. Yesterday I went to target and wasn't gone a hour before my husband was calling me saying he could get the baby to stop crying. She had a good feeding right before I left and wasn't hungry. Tonight I went to a friends house to have a couple drinks and it wasnt two hours before my parents who were babysitting called and said she was unconsoulable and didn't eat much of the pumped milk in a bottle they gave. I think the problem is she's so used to me nursing her to sleep and me always being the one to put her to sleep. Any advice to help anyone else soothe her?

My daughter is 16 months and we are still nursing on demand, which is usually at night, when we wake, and before naps. Sometimes less and sometimes more :love
She has been difficult to get to sleep for about the past 2 weeks, sometimes she will have a good night, and then sometimes she will cry and no bedtime action (rocking, nursing, singing, walking, bouncing, swaddling, or just letting her cry) will soothe her then as we have been waking up in the morning she has been nursing a lot. She is usually fast, but she takes her time in the morning. The past couple days it feels like she is getting a latch and just holding it, almost biting, and it stings and starts to hurt and I have to force her to break the latch to get relief, sometimes we seem to fight over my nipple. I'm not sure if I'm more sensitive because my period may be starting in a week or so, or if she is latching on and not letting go. If it's the second and not the first does anyone have any suggestions...

My DS will be a year old on the 31st and I plan to continue BF until he self weans. He nurses when it's time to nap (2xday), at bedtime and NUMEROUS times throughout the night, even if only for a few minutes. He wil sometimes nurse when he wakes in the morning as well. Since nursing is the only way he will go to sleep, our nursing session are still usually as long as they were when he was pretty young.

He's getting enough milk when he nurses; he's gaining weight appropriately and producing enough wet/dirty diapers. I'd like to start pumping in between nursing session to start a "milk stash" and to give him in his sippy cup. However, when I pumped after he was first born I could hardly pump any milk at all... I mean like an ounce or two in 30 minutes! I tried both a manual pump and a hand-me-down electric pump.

Should I try to increase my supply so that I may be able to pump more milk? Or try to increase in case I start my period soon? Or just in case it starts to decrease since he's a year old? I know, silly questions haha. But I'm trying to be proactive here!

Hello everyone,
I am new to the forum and really glad Lll has a forum- I didn't know!
I have been having problems with my milk supply since month 3 - I am now in the 5th month and still continuing to breastfeed exclusively. Herder, on and off, my milk supply drops very much, and I have to go through periods of lots of pumping and blessed thistle to get it back up to normal.
Lately I read somewhere that magnesium affects milk supply and I've been wondering if this has affected my milk supply (I have been using antacids due to a very bad case of reflux andi jut read that the antacids i've been using, gaviscon, contain magnesium).
Does anyone know anything about this? Might it be true or not?
