Hi all, I am new here and this is my first post. My son is 8 weeks and has gained fantastic weight (started at 7.7 and is now 15.10). Despite this, we have had a ton of challenges: tongue tie, vasospasms, lots of nipple soreness, oversupply.

I recently tried the biological nursing position and was very happy at his latch and lack of nipple soreness. But a few questions:

1. When he is latched, he naturally rests his head on one side of the breast. It feels like that side is getting squished and I am worried that the milk isn't flowing through those ducts. My breasts still feel a bit hard on the side that he rests his face on. How do I correct this and is it a problem?

2. He tends to nurse a long time but sometimes my breasts don't feel very emptied. Is this may be due to his resting his face on the breasts?

Any help you can provide will be appreciated for this first time mom!

She's 8 weeks old, her birth weight was 6.10oz and 2 weeks ago she weighed 9.10oz so she's gaining well, she has about 9 wet diapers and 2 poop - but she only feeds maybe 5mins ( if i'm lucky ) at one breast.
She's only started doing this - sometimes she chokes but I'm not sure if thats because I have an over active let-down or she just forgets to swallow!

Also I've started seeing if she wants a bottle after I feed her (EBM) which she kinda doesn't mind but doesn't actively suck it but keeps it in her mouth and swallows - so I'm confused by this - does that means she's hungry?

She also keeps poking out her tongue after I feed her well which means i put her back on the breast but she either cries or pushes away or does feed but once let down starts she pulls off!

confused first time Mum ........ anyone going through something similar or have any ideas?

Thank you so much.

ps : I only pump to increase supply (I have no indication of it being low but I"m paranoid, in fact if I had express it squirts so I think I'm ok)

I love breast feeding and am so determined to get through all the little bumps along the way but help and support is definitely appreciated as it's not as easy as i expected!

sorry for the length of this question.

Hola a Todas!!

Ayuda x favor!!

I am concerned because my 7 1/2 month old won't eat or nurse during the day. She will nurse in the mornings. Sometimes she will eat about 1tbs of cereal btw 9-11. But after the morning nursing and/or cereal she won't want to eat or nurse until 5pm-6pm! Is this normal? I've trid taking her to a quiet place to nurse. I have tried pumping bottles for her but it's really just wasting it bc she just chews on the nipples and spits the milk out. I try sippy cups and she spits the milk out. I will try 3 different kinds of baby food and she won't want any of them. I can hear her stomach growling for goodness sakes! And she won't want anything. I am worried she isn't getting all the nutrients she needs. Is this a 'nursing strike', or teething (she got 1st tooth a month ago), or is she just too distracted? Am I overreacting? Thank you in advance!

My daughter just turned 1. For quite some time now I have not been pumping enough to keep up with her. (TG for milk sharing, but we have had to supplement with formula a couple of weeks.) She is nowhere near weaning, still not entirely convinced on table food, though she does eat some solids, a little more each day.

My question is this: is there that much I can do, at this point, to increase supply? I've tried various supplements, but still need an extra 6 oz plus beyond what I produce.

Should I even bother trying a hospital grade pump (currently using a Medela PIS) at a year in, or is my supply too established by now?

Going on 30+ months of collective breastfeeding experience, I'm wondering if there are other techniques for hand-expression. I can usually manage one let-down and get 4-5 oz out (that's total from both breasts), but it takes FOREVER. I've watched a few videos and read a bit, but I figured I should tap the collective wisdom of the forum. What are your favorite resources/techniques for hand-expression?

It seems like lots of nights I am defaulting to hand-expression because I'm too lazy to set-up the pump.
Thank you in advance!

I asked the Lactation Nurse about a prescription to increase lactation and she recommended Reglan, it is the only perscription drug they give at this hospital for Lactation. She mentioned the side effects and told me to do my research before asking the doctor to perscribe it. I have looked at many articles online and reviews from other moms. I was just wondering.

Reglan VS Fenugreek? What are your experiences with these medications/herbs.

I am looking for something that can help my supply in a major way. My daughter does not nurse anymore so I am a slave to my pump. I pump every 2 hours through out the day and so far I have not seen a difference. I am producing 1 ounce every 2 hours and less the longer I go without pumping.

My son is 3 months fully breastfed, no formula. Weight gain is good, some people think he is older than he is. This past week he hasn't been eating much, 5-6 times a day no longer than 8-10 mins. My breast feel as if my milk is running out and when I try to pump I don't get more than 2oz after 20mins per breast, a month before I could manually pump 5oz within 10min, which I thought was crazy! I knew I had a strong letdown because my milk would spray and still does, how I knew milk was coming in was my breasts would sting for a couple minutes, now I barely ever feel it. I'm going back to work soon but only 4hrs a day twice a week. And he absolutely hates the bottle he refuses to drink out of it. We've tried getting daddy to feed him but he fights & cries harder, but he does take a pacifier. I love the bond I have with my son, I dont want to lose it either :(. Also lately i've been having signs of a uti :( sucks! Ive have it before when i was about 3 months pregnant with him. It was pretty bad I could barely walk and if someone were to touch my lower back i could literally cry my heart out. I already drink about 6-7 bottles of water a day and have been drinking 100% cranberry juice, I'm scared to take any meds. What could i do to keep producing milk, how could i get my son to take a bottle? Tips? Advice?

I was originally making enough to feed her but she was exhausting me. I walked into her doctors appointment and the doctor was concerned because I looked so exhausted. She was latching for an hour, resting for an hour, and then wanting to eat again. Every other hour I was feeding her. I couldn't sleep at all. It wasn't healthy for me to not be sleeping AT ALL. So the dr said to feed her for 15 minutes on each side and then give her a bottle if she's still hungry and of course she was still hungry. So she ate formula then started sleeping longer since formula takes longer to digest. Now she is taking more formula that breastmilk and sleeping so long between that my milk supply is quickly depleting. I am considering renting a medical grade pump from the hospital just to help make more milk to feed her. She eats 4 ounces of formula at a single feeding but it's every 4-5 hours. I bottle fed formula to my other 2 kids but wanted to try breastfeeding this one. I am so frustrated because bottle feeding was so much easier and more convenient. I think I want to continue to try for just a little longer to see if we can pull it off even though it's very inconvenient. Before I decide whether to continue to keep going... while breastfeeding, will the baby ever not have to feed every 2 hours? I can handle every 4 hours but, every 2 is ridiculous if it's going to be like that for months on end. I really would like to try to keep it up but not at the sacrifice of time with my other kids, work, husband, and time to myself. Please help

For over one week my now 5 week old has wanted to feed non-stop from around 4 pm to 10 pm (it varies a bit). She'll fall asleep at the breast but wake if I move her. We can take 45 mins breaks between feedings -- baths are a great distraction -- but she wants to eat again. She can be either calm or incredibly fussy (fortunately not really colicky). There are times, though, when she beats on my chest and seems to fight the breast. I can take her off and she'll calm down before wanting to go back on. I always express a little bit after pulling her off just to make sure milk is there and it always is.

The benefit is that she'll sleep through the night in three 3.5 hour consecutive blocks with very small feeding breaks in between.

Are cluster feeds typically 6 hours (I fortunately don't have to work, have no other kids, and DH is a great help with dinners and snacks)?

Is there an age or a point where she'll grow out of the cluster feeds? I love nursing her for hours... and sometimes I can't stand it.
